Pat Harmon Run
Michael Catalano, recent Citibank News 12 Scholar Athlete was the Meet Director and Organizer for the 2nd annual Pat Harmon Run in Smithtown. Michael is a senior at Smithtown West HS and an All County runner in Cross Country and Track.
Patrick Harmon was a much beloved Track Coach at both Smithtown East HS and Smithtown West HS as well as a Football Coach at HS East. Patrick succumbed to brain cancer in 2010 after a courageous battle.
Michael and his teammates from Cross Country and Track spent numerous hours gathering sponsors and donations for the Meet. The Meet raised over $15,000 for The American Cancer Society for research and had over 500 participants. Many of the participants were Varsity athletes from both East and West HS.
It was a tremendous feeling of community service and awareness for both schools and for all the participants that day. Michael is to be commended for the amazing job he did organizing the race.
The Smithtown Booster Club administrated all the money collected from the run and distributed all the funds at the conclusion to The American Cancer Society. The Smithtown Booster Club has managed the funds for the race for the past two years.
