Congratulations to the Great Hollow Middle School girls "Blue" volleyball team for earning the Smithtown Booster Club's Winter Scholar Athlete award!
The team, which was 8-2 this past season, had a cumulative GPA of 3.92. Head coach Ashley Marchese says the girls, who many had never played volleyball before, deserve kudos for balancing sports and schoolwork.
"To me this is a much higher achievement than any win on the volleyball court." Marchese proudly said.
"To have the top academic kids in the school is pretty good feeling."
This is the first time the "Blue" girls volleyball team has won the Winter Scholar Athlete award.
Great Hollow Middle School Principal John Scomillio, Assistant Principal Peter Russo, Booster Club President Dave Miller and SCSD Athletic Director Jason Lambert were among those on hand this morning for the presentation.
